Department Overview

Our key aim is to provide the best educational experience for our learners through the provision of Administration, Business, Computing and IT which can be studied at a range of SCQF levels.

We are an accredited Microsoft IT Academy and offer Microsoft Office Specialist exams to enhance employability.  The main software used is Microsoft Office 2003 which is linked to the College campuses through a wide area network.  The new campus has modern computer labs with internet links and excellent Library facilities, offering a range of software and office equipment for teaching and study purposes. 

Students on our programmes learn in a realistic working environment and the majority are supported by visits and periods of work experience in local organisations. This provides a valuable opportunity for learners to gain experience in an organisation whilst enhancing their ability to put theory into practice.

A high percentage of our learners gain employment once they have finished their courses or progress to a higher level programme.  Some who gain employment during the course return on a day-release basis to complete the qualification.  People already in employment can attend on a part-time, day-release or flexi basis.

We jointly deliver the Borders Business Programme along with Heriot-Watt University and this provides an excellent opportunity for learners to start on our HNC Business programme, progress to HND Business and then complete a BA in Business Management accredited by Heriot-Watt University.  We also have articulation arrangements with a number of other Scottish universities for learners who wish to progress their studies.
