This course offers an introduction to software development. It will introduce you to a range of subjects and skills that contribute to the design and development of high quality software. These include developing skills in C#, VB.NET, Java, Object Oriented Design, Object Oriented Programming, SQL Programming and Project Management.This course is equivalent to the first year of degree study and is year 1 of a two year HND programme. By studying this programme, you will develop suitable competencies and industry knowledge to enhance a career in computing.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion, candidates will achieve the following awards;

  • HNC Computing at SCQF Level 7
  • HND Computing: Software Development at SCQF Level 8
Some of the units included cover topics such as Client Operating Systems, Database Design and Troubleshooting Computer Problems.

Delivery

The course is full-time with delivery on campus over three days, for 36 weeks (Year 1). There will be some hybrid learning opportunities and this will be flexible throughout the delivery.

Entry requirements

Applications should have two relevant Higher qualifications at Grade C or above in Computing Science, Maths, Graphic Communications or other Science/Technology subject in addition to three National 5s at Grade C or above, or be progressing from a similar college computing course at SCQF Level 6.Applicants with no formal qualifications will be considered on an individual basis and their applications or enquiries are encouraged.Previous industry experience is not essential but would be advantageous.
