The Foundation Apprenticeship will give you the chance to develop the skills and knowledge to enter a career in the construction industry. You will learn about the different construction trades and gain some practical skills in Carpentry & Joinery, Painting & Decorating, and Brickwork or Roofing. This course is delivered by time served trades people and provides trade expertise in classroom and workshop activities. The course provides employer engagment and encourages the student to find a suitable work placement.

Delivery

Typically, the course will run on Fridays for a period of 27 weeks. 10am - 2.30pm

Location

Any transport requirements will be arranged by the Schools Transport Team at Scottish Borders Council.The training will take place at the school in the technical workshops

There are a number of career pathways that the Construction FA can lead to including: Bricklayer, Joiner, Painter and Decorator, Labourer, General Building Operative.

Understanding industry Personal development: Self and work, Half Brick Walling, Carpentry and Joinery Techniques, Decorative Painting.SVQ units include Work Based Challenge Skills Unit (SCQF Level 4)To achieve your SVQ units, pupils are assessed as part of work placement
