Esports and Digital Skills (NPAs - SCQF Level 5)

This course will provide candidates with opportunities to enhance their game-playing skills, organise and compete in esports events regionally and nationally and also develop the essential digital skills that are required in the modern-day working environment. By undertaking this course candidates will be provided with a bespoke gaming studio to undertake their course work along with being provided with an area that allows them to prepare and practice in an engaging environment. Throughout the course, candidates will develop the digital skills to progress along our multi-disciplined computing pathway at Borders College.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion, candidates will achieve the following awards;

  • NPA Esports at SCQF Level 5
  • NPA Cyber Security at SCQF Level 5
  • NPA Games Design at SCQF Level 5
Some of the units included cover topics such as:
  • Game Performance
  • The Esports Industry
  • Organising and Promoting Events

Delivery

The course is full-time, delivered on campus over three days, for 36 weeks. There will be some hybrid learning opportunities and this will be flexible throughout the delivery.

Entry requirements

Applications should have 3 relevant National 4 qualifications or equivalent, or be progressing from a similar college course at Level 4.Applicants with no formal qualifications will be considered on an individual basis and their applications or enquiries are encouraged.Previous relevant experience would be beneficial but is not essential as the candidate's skills would be developed on this course.

Applications will be reviewed by the curriculum team and candidates will be invited to interview to follow up on the information contained within to confirm suitability. A full, detailed personal statement is important at this stage. Candidates are provided with the opportunity to ask further questions about the course and college support services at the interviews.
