The NPA in Local Food Production at SCQF level 6 gives learners the opportunity to explore how the food they eat is produced and to contrast global food markets with food produced and consumend locally. They will also have the opportunity to develop practical skills in Horticulture, and to explore the steps involved in taking a primary food product to market. The Course covers routes to market, product development, added value, marketing, and legal requirements, and explores issues surrounding local and global food production and consumption, environmental issues, food security and sustainability.

Entry requirements

Leaners should be able to study and achieve at SCQF level 6. Learners would benefit from having attained the skills, knowledge and understanding required by one or more of the following, or equivalent qualifications and/or experience: NPA in Rural Skills at SCQF level 5, NPA in Crofting at SCQF level 5, NC in Hospitality at SCQF level 5, Skills for Work: Hospitality National 5, NPA in Aquaculture at SCQF level 5, National 5 Biology, National 5 Geography
