This course will give you an introduction to this subject area and the basic skills necessary to progress onto further study in Computing, IT or another subject. Undertaking course work in our industry leading educational esports Classroom, students will undertake units which include Game Performance and The Esports Industry and Events. Candidates will also be able to develop essential skills, which are transferrable to continue in various pathways in further education and into employment.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion, candidates will achieve the following awards;

  • NPA Esports at SCQF Level 5
  • Core Skills including Communication, Numeracy and ICT at SCQF Level 5
Some of the units included cover topics such as Game Performance, Esports Industry and Organising and Promoting Events.

Delivery

The course is full-time with delivery on campus over three days, for 18 weeks. There will be some hybrid learning opportunities and this will be flexible throughout the delivery.

Entry requirements

Applications should have 3 relevant National 4 qualifications including one of Maths, Computing Science or Physics.Applicants with no formal qualifications will be considered on an individual basis and their applications or enquiries are encouraged.

Progression opportunities

On successful completion of the course, students may progress to some of
the pathways outlined below. Further or Higher Education Opportunities.

  • Esports and Digital Skills (inc. Cyber Security and Games Design) at SCQF Level 5.
  • NC Computing with Digital Media at SCQF Level 6 taught at Borders College.

Employment opportunities in this vocational area that are applicable to the units undertaken in this course are continually evolving and this entry level course will help support learners into careers in:
  • Games Design.
  • Cyber Security.
  • Software Development.
  • IT Support.

Applications will be reviewed by the curriculum team and candidates will be invited to interview to follow up on the information contained within to confirm suitability. A full, detailed personal statement is important at this stage. Candidates are provided with the opportunity to ask further questions about the course and college support services at the interviews.
