Cottage-style Spa impresses visiting beauty students
Level 3 Beauty Therapy students from Borders College recently enjoyed an industry visit to Fletchers Cottage Spa, located at the exclusive Archerfield House in East Lothian.

The visit helped raise the students’ awareness of employability, as well as alternative spas close to home.
Beauty Therapy Lecturer Sally Elder accompanied the students, who were given a tour of the unique cottage-style Spa and some of its treatment rooms, all of which look out onto a beautiful adjoining walled garden. The relaxation area boasts a wood burner as its main feature and the Spa can also offer Seaweed and Aromatherapy huts, tropical showers and steam/sauna rooms.
The group were shown the all-organic products used by and retailed at the Spa itself, allowing them to make comparisons with the products they use both at College and at home. Sally explains that the Spa has a very organic approach, using only organic materials, right down to the Therapists’ tunics, adding that:
“This has been a very worthwhile opportunity for the Level 3 students who all enjoyed it thoroughly. They also received comments from staff at the Archerfield on how smart they looked in their tunics on our visit.”
Following their tour the students enjoyed lunch in the walled garden, returning to College full of fresh ideas and renewed enthusiasm for their course – one student was so inspired by the visit that she has since enquired about the possibility of employment at the Spa upon completion of the level 3 programme.
