Food and beverage delights for students at ScotHot
NVQ Catering & Hospitality (levels 1, 2 & 3) students from Borders College recently enjoyed an educational excursion to the bi-annual Scottish Hospitality Exhibition (ScotHot), held at the SECC in Glasgow.
The students qualified for complimentary tickets through the Springboard Charity, who aim to encourage, motivate, build confidence, develop the skills required and mentor their beneficiaries to succeed in a career within hospitality, leisure and tourism.
As well as various demonstrations and seminars on the spotlight stage (including a Barista demonstration), the students had the opportunity to see a range of food and drink displays, with everything from canapés and main dishes, to sugar craft and works in fat. Seeing these displays helps the students to develop their own culinary presentation skills. There were even pleasures such as tea, gin and wine tastings!
The two-day exhibition also hosted the Scottish Culinary Championships with open kitchens so that visitors could view all the heats – College Lecturer Craig Gibb was competing, and prepared 3 courses for industry judges.
Staff in attendance: Paula Hutchison, Fiona Nichol, Gillian Petty, Elaine Henderson, Robbie Bunton, Joy Black and Yvonne Brunton.
