Former beauty student’s festive nail art demonstration

A former Beauty Therapy student recently visited Borders College to give a demonstration and talk to Beauty Therapy level 1 students about her experiences at College and the roles she has undertaken since leaving back in 2012.

Jemma McCormack studied Beauty Therapy level 1 - 3 at College between 2009 and 2012, becoming a fully qualified therapist by the age of 18. Jemma then went on to complete a placement in the exclusive La Manga Spa Resort, before taking on a number of roles in places such as Macdonald Cardrona Hotel in Cardrona and Beauty by Lyn in Galashiels where she is currently employed as a therapist.

Jemma, who, during her time at College won student of the year twice and Dermalogica student of the year, spoke to students about nail art. With Christmas fast approaching, the students were given a demonstration on three different festive looks, which the students then went on to recreate. Jemma also spoke about her continued studies since leaving College, stressing the importance of this to the students.

The level 1 Beauty students thoroughly enjoyed the talk and demonstrations. When asked what she had gained form the talk, Megan Garrett commented:

“To follow and do what you love, you can gain your confidence and get to where you want to be by working hard.”

Beauty Therapy lecturer Liesa Hamilton, who oversaw the visit, added:

“It is always a pleasure to have past students return to the College and share their experiences with the students. It is great to hear about their continued success after leaving College and inspires students to work hard on their chosen course. We loved how Jemma also brought a bit of festive spirit to the class with her Christmas designs.”
