FORMER BEAUTY THERAPIST BENEFITS FROM MA OPPORTUNITY
Having completed her HNC Accounting whilst working in the beauty salon at Peebles Hydro, Nicola Brown was browsing the Borders College website and noticed an advert for a Modern Apprentice (MA) within the College’s Finance department.
Seeing this as an opportunity to utilise her accountancy skills whilst further developing her knowledge in a working environment, Nicola began the MA Business and Administration level 2 qualification. Working hard and gathering relevant evidence to build her portfolio to a high standard, Nicola completed the 8 units well ahead of schedule.
The flexibility of the work-based qualification suited Nicola as she was able to plan her own learning and set herself targets around her job. During her employment, she also had the opportunity to complete staff development courses, including the certificated World Host course.
Regular reviews form part of the MA programme, and Nicola had the support of her colleagues who assisted with witness testimonies as well as providing help with any queries she had as she was learning the job.
Nicola would like to secure employment in the Finance industry to enable her to apply the skills and knowledge she has gained from both her HNC Accountancy and MA Business and Administration qualifications.
