High brow award for Galashiels beauty therapist
Former Borders College Beauty Therapy student Misty Crew has been named Best Brow Artist for the second year running at the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards (SHABA).

SHABA is Scotland’s largest independent hair and beauty awards, attracting hundreds of entries from across the country with entries being judged by a panel of industry professionals, making the win quite a coup for Misty who runs her own salon ‘Mistys Brow Specialist’ on Bank Street in Galashiels.
Misty, who completed her level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification at Borders College in 2007, was presented her award at a glittering gala dinner with celebrity presenters, held at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel recently. She will also have a featured article and photograph in an edition of SalonNV magazine.
Speaking of her award, Misty said:
“This win means a lot to me as a beauty therapist as 10 years ago when I started out in college I only thought I could work in a salon doing regular beauty treatments. I took a risk and began to specialise in an area that not many had and to be recognised for it is amazing!”
Crediting her College course for providing a thorough, all-round knowledge base and giving her the confidence to take a chance at running her own business, Misty explains that she initially opened a beauty salon alongside fellow student Natalie Stephens before going on to open her own brow bar after taking extra eyebrow courses.
Her advice to those beginning their careers as beauty therapists is:
“Don’t be afraid to break away from the normal treatments and try something new once you qualify, as you may just hit on an up and coming trend and have the chance to win awards!”
Congratulations to Misty on this recent success.
