Spark Energy employee Euan Duff is a recent candidate to successfully complete a Business and Administration Modern Apprenticeship with the support of the Business Development Unit at Borders College.

Spark Energy Modern Apprentice Euan Duff

Commencing his MA whilst covering a maternity post with his previous employer, Euan (aged 19, from Tweedbank) continued to collate evidence for his award in his new position as Account Manager with Borders-based Spark Energy, finding that he particularly excelled in the Telephone Communication and Bespoke Software units.

Euan said of his MA:

“It was a great learning experience. Having started off with Momentum Skills and then joining Spark, I had to learn the new systems and work with a new team. I got my team involved in understanding the Modern Apprenticeship and in turn they supported and helped me.”

Business Development Unit Training Consultant Jill Lawrie supported Euan throughout his award, commenting:

“The work-based qualification really suited Euan, allowing him to enhance his skills and knowledge through a formal qualification whilst earning a salary.  He managed to balance his busy shifts with the portfolio building process.”

Now using his qualification to support the Spark Energy customer experience, Euan has an increased understanding of how to enhance customer calls and e-mails.  Not only has this understanding improved Euan’s communication skills with his customers and his peer group, he has also become a more confident person.

Team Leader, Dale Lambert, said:

“Euan’s MA has helped him in his work enormously. It’s definitely helped us to develop Euan to a confident member of the team who supports us in providing great customer service. It’s also really great from my perspective to see him enjoy the role in Customer Service. He has become a valuable member of the team.”
