Borders College

Whole HNC group set to progress to new opportunities

HNC Care and Administrative Practice students from Borders College have clearly thrived on College life this year, with all 12 students progressing to positive destinations following completion of their higher education programme.

Most are set to continue their higher education with 2 embarking on Radiography (Louise Johnson) and Physiotherapy (Rebecca Daly) at Robert Gordon University, 5 entering into Adult Nursing (Amy Reynolds and Sorrell Marr progressing directly to second year at Edinburgh Napier University, and Robbie Tait and Emma Axon entering second year at Queen Margaret University, and Callum Stark into first year at Edinburgh Napier pending full acceptance), and another (Kimberley Mitchell) moving on to Podiatry at QMU.

Meanwhile, the remainder of the group will be kick starting their Care careers in employment – Grant Yeomans will undertake training as a Nurse with the Royal Navy, David Kerr is commencing training as a Paramedic, Christina Hopewell is taking a position at the Borders General Hospital as a Nursing Assistant on the Nurse Bank, and Gemma Gotterson will work as a Lab Technician whilst planning to train as a Midwife in the near future.

Course Tutor Julie Baxter has praised the HNC CAP group, saying: “This year’s students have really impressed me with their drive and motivation for learning, and I couldn’t be prouder of what they have achieved and are going on to achieve. I wish them all the best in their future careers and know that they will do the College and themselves proud.”

Their individual successes really demonstrate the range of potential employment and opportunities available upon completion of further or higher education.

The College’s annual Graduation Ceremony will take place at Springwood Park at the end of September, where those in attendance will have the chance to celebrate their achievements before beginning the next chapter of their careers.
