Employers urged to take up apprenticeship grant
Businesses are being encouraged to apply for the Skills Development Scotland apprenticeship employer grant (AEG) through Borders College.
Up to £5000 is available for businesses who want to take on a new Modern or Graduate Apprentice, or for the reskilling of existing staff. The funding can be claimed retrospectively for those who started after December 1st 2020.
The funding is aimed at those hiring someone new or developing an existing employee.
Fiona Turnbull, Account Manager Contracts, Procurement & Employability, commented:
“Borders College can help grow your business through the delivery of Modern or Graduate Apprenticeships within your business.
“Apprenticeships are work-based qualifications and can help you invest in new talent or the upskilling an existing employee.
“Funding is limited for these grants, so I would encourage anyone interested to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
Currently, there is £5,000 for employers taking on or upskilling a 16 to 24-year old through a Modern or Graduate Apprenticeship, and for those aged up to 29 years who have a disability, are care experienced or are from a black, Asian or minority ethnic background.
Employers taking on or upskilling an individual aged 25 and over through a Modern or Graduate Apprenticeship can get a grant of £3,500. If applications are for upskilling existing employees, the grant specifically supports those who have changed job roles within the last four months.
Funding will be available for eligible employers where the apprenticeship start date was on or after 1st December 2020. Funding will be available for starts until 25th March 2021 or until funding levels are exceeded, whichever comes first.
