Smash the Stigma
Borders College Students’ Association celebrated mental health awareness month, yesterday, by hosting ‘Smash the Stigma’, an event that aimed to promote the support available to students experiencing mental health issues, and encouraged students to forget about exam stresses and looming assessments and have a bit of fun!
A number of support organisations within the community attended to provide information and support to Borders College students. Also on offer were carnival stalls, ice cream, crepes, music, therapy dogs, alpacas and miniature Shetland ponies.
Morag Mulhern, the Students’ Associations Vice President for Education, was delighted with the success of the event. “Today was excellent! Everybody was laughing and smiling and enjoying themselves, which was exactly what we wanted from a mental health event.”
A total of £83.10 was raised which will be donated to Penumbra Youth Borders. Special thanks to A & G Ices and Maisies Berwick Ltd who kindly donated 10% of their takings to our charity of choice.
