Students feel happy, safe and prepared to learn at Borders College
This year, BCSA made some big changes to the way students are represented. This is partly in response to COVID, and partly because we recognised the class rep system wasn’t quite doing its job of capturing feedback that reflected the diversity of the student experience.
One of the major changes we made was to launch the Big Student Survey. Released 3 times a year, it captures feedback on themes relating to learning and teaching, IT and digital delivery, and the accessibility of our various support services. It also collects equalities data so we are able to identify the challenges vulnerable groups of students face, and work with the Student Experience Committee to improve their college experience and outcomes.
We launched the first of these surveys in October and received over 360 responses – a huge thank you to everyone who encouraged their students to complete it.
As we would expect, the survey has revealed some areas we need to work on, but it has also shown just how successful induction has been this year. Here are some of the highlights.
