Lantra Landbased Learner of the Year awards

Ryan Gillan, George Collins and Mathew Wilkinson Hawick High School - School Plus students
Borders College has again been well represented at the interview stage for The Landbased Learner of the Year Awards. At this stage nominated learners are interviewed by a panel of judges from industry and have a chance to impress them with their knowledge and enthusiasm. No fewer than 5 Agricultural students qualified for interviews at Scone, they were all nominated by Andrew Johnson after consultation with the agricultural team.
The 5 were Craig Connell from Lauder (last years winner) Ross Anderson from Roberton (last years runner up) Mathew Ramsden from Eccles, Cameron Simpson from Jedburgh and William Fleming from Teviothead.
The College also had Emma Lindsay from Duns at the interview stage; Emma is a current Level 3 Horticulture student who was heavily involved in last years Gardening Scotland success.
Three Hawick High School - School Plus students also had an interview. They are George Collins, Mathew Wilkinson and Ryan Gillan. This was a great achievement to get three nominated students from a school group. Mathew and Ryan have been accepted for Agriculture at Borders College next session and George has applied for a college in Northumberland.
The eight Borders College students should hear within a week if they are to proceed to the awards ceremony final in Crieff in March.
