This course supports experienced mountain bike performers to develop their individual skills whilst completing a nationally recognised qualification that can lead to employment or entry to university (to 2nd or 3rd year in some cases). HNC Coaching and Developing Sport offers a unique opportunity to work towards industry recognised coaching awards. The course is recognised by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and enables access to employment or university. This means you can be confident you will graduate with enhanced employment or university prospects in your chosen field. Through a blended learning approach as well as at least 3 hours per week spent on placement you will learn how to deliver sports coaching, strength and conditioning, fitness testing, sports analysis, nutrition, psychology and sports development projects, while also gaining the real life experience of enabling young sports people to thrive and develop in their chosen area. Through completion of this HNC there will also be the unique opportunity to work towards your chosen Sports Governing bodies coaching awards as well as Saltire and 1st Aid qualifications ensuring you gain the relevant skills, knowledge and experience to provide you with various options on completion. This course is structured around 3 days in college, for academic course work, specialised strength and conditioning sessions, and up to 2 days expert Mountain Bike tuition through Dirt School.

Qualifications

HND Year 1 in Coaching and Developing Sport at SCQF Level 7

Entry requirements

SCQF Level 6 qualification in Sport and Communications, or 2 Highers, preferably in English and/or Physical Education. All applicants must have a proven interest in their sport and sports coaching. Selection may be subject to satisfactory interview session. Interviews will include a group practical session meaning interviewee's will need to bring kit and bike.
