HNC Counselling is designed to provide the opportunity to further develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to the theory and skills practice of working with people and counselling within an encouraging and supportive environment.At the HNC level it is recommended that you undertake some voluntary work in the helping professions relevant to counselling to build up your experience base. A placement is an essential part of the HND (Year 2) where you will be expected to undertake 100 hours of counselling. The theory subjects include Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic.

Part time 36 weeks - 1 twilight session per week, 3pm - 9pm plus attendance at monthly Saturday workshop

Entry requirements

Introduction to Counselling or Cosca modules or any other equivalent course. Applicants will need to evidence learning ability through the submission of a short written reflective task (500 words) that will be set by the college.

Progression opportunities

Counselling HND year 2. Employment in mental health and voluntary sectors.
