The Modern Apprenticeship in Hairdressing is a work based qualification delivered by direct observation and the production of a portfolio of evidence. Candidates are assigned an assessor who will support them through the delivery of this Modern Apprenticeship.

Qualifications

The course comprises of 7 mandatory units and 1 optional unit. The units cover the following areas: Style and Finish Hair, Cut Hair Using Basic Techniques, Colour and Lighten Hair, Develop and Maintain your Effectiveness at work. 1 optional unit can be chosen from a range of options suited to the work place.To achieve the Modern Apprenticeship candidates must also achieve 5 core skills at SCQF Level 3 in Communication, Working with Others, Problem Solving, ICT & Numeracy. While there is no formal requirement for enhancement to the framework, employers may provide additional training linked to products and equipment used in the salon.

Delivery

At your workplace - our Borders College Assessor will guide you every step of the way, visiting regularly and providing personalised tutoring and support. College premises in Borders & Edinburgh and other venues are often used for meeting up, or to access computer and library facilities. Start dates are all year round. We work with people individually therefore start dates are negotiable.

Scotland - candidates can be located in any area of Scotland

Entry requirements

Candidates must be employed and working in a suitable environment to be able to provide evidence of their competence in the workplace.

Progression opportunities

Candidates can progress to a higher level Modern Apprenticeship award.
