With this Foundation Apprenticeship, youll be prepared for a wide range of different Social Care roles. In Scotland, over 203,000 people work in social services. The number of jobs are still growing, and there are great opportunities for progression, too.
Delivery
Delivery will be a mix of online and in campus - please contact your school guidance for more information as the school will have detailed this in their timetable. An example of potential delivery is Tuesday 2-4pm - online, Thursday 2-4pm college campus, Friday afternoon 2-4.30 work placement this can be flexible. Hours of learning per week 9 hours. Delivery of learning and work placements may be affected by COVID-19 restrictions, where remote and blended learning may be undertaken alongside or in place of classroom and workplace learning.

Entry requirements
Pupils should have an interest and enthusiasm in exploring this area of work and be able to work at SCQF 6 (Higher Level). Applicants should be able to demonstrate values and principles relevant to working in care, such as kindness and empathy. Pupils should have a good level of written and spoken English. Communication with users of service as well as with staff in the workplace is a key competence. Ability to work with others, problem solve and a commitment to appropriate values is necessary. Pupils are required to undergo a PVG prior to placement.

There are a number of career pathways that the Social Services and Healthcare FA can lead to including: Adult Nurse, Childrens Nurse, Care Home Manager, Care Assistant Residential, Support Worker, Social Worker, MA SVQ Social Services & Healthcare SCQF level 7, HNC Childhood Practice and HNC Social Services SCQF level 7 Higher Education.

Course Content
SVQ UNITS: Support effective communication, Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals, Support the safeguarding of children, Develop your own knowledge and practice.To achieve your SVQ units, pupils are assessed as part of work placement. Participants shall learn how to support effective communication, support the health and safety of themselves and individuals, develop own knowledge and support the safeguarding of individuals.
