Health, Fitness and Sports Performance (BASE Mountain Biking) supports sports performers to develop their individual skills and sports performance alongside their academic studies.

This course will give you a range of practical and theory based skills in health, fitness and sports that will develop your knowledge and skills for further study or a career in the sport and fitness industry.

The course covers a range of SQA Level 6 units which allow a clear progression pathway to HNC level study, or other further education courses.

It is a full time course, with up to 3 days per week in college that will include specialised strength & conditioning sessons and 2 days expert Mountain Bike Tuition through Dirt School at the world class facilities of Glentress/Innerleithen.

Full time students in Scotland may have their tuition fees covered, provided they meet residency requirements.

Entry requirements

This programme is designed to develop the competitive abilities of an athlete and it is expected that applicants will already be competing and performing at a competent level. In addition applicants require four National 5 awards or equivalent at grade C or above, ideally in English, Physical Education or a science OR NQ/NC qualification at SCQF level 5 in a Sports related subject; OR Other equivalent qualifications or experience. Selection will be subject to satisfactory interview session in which a practical session will take place to assess current performance levels (Interviewees should attend interview in Mountain Bike kit with a Suitable Mountain Bike for Glentress Terrain). On successful entry to the course, the Borders College Sports Kit Bundle must be purchased. Bursary funded students will be reimbursed for this purchase. Orders will be taken during interview or during information days.
