The Salon: Hair and Beauty at Borders College

At Borders College, our professional training salons provide students with the opportunity to develop their skills in a realistic commercial environment using industry-standard equipment, products and techniques.
Led by experienced staff with extensive backgrounds in both industry and education, our Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy programmes are designed to reflect current industry practices and meet the evolving needs of employers across the region. This ensures that students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence required for successful careers within the sector.
The Salon: Hair offers a range of professional hairdressing services carried out by students as part of their practical training. From cutting and styling to colouring and specialist treatments, clients can enjoy quality services while supporting the development of future industry professionals.
The Salon: Beauty provides a wide selection of beauty therapy treatments, including skincare, massage, nail services and other wellbeing treatments. Clients benefit from a relaxing and professional experience while helping students gain valuable hands-on experience in a real salon setting.

Both salons are open to the public throughout term time and offer a welcoming, vibrant and busy atmosphere where client experience is at the heart of student success.
All services are delivered by students who are currently undertaking nationally recognised qualifications and are closely supervised by our experienced lecturing team. As treatments form part of the learning and assessment process, appointments may take slightly longer than those in a commercial salon. Our staff are always on hand to guide, support and assess students, ensuring high standards of service and professionalism.
From the moment you arrive, our aim is to provide a positive and enjoyable experience in a realistic salon environment. Whether visiting The Salon Hair or The Salon Beauty, you can expect a warm welcome, attentive service and the opportunity to support the next generation of industry professionals.
Our salon prices reflect the training and assessment activities taking place, and we greatly appreciate the continued support of our clients. By choosing our salons, you play an important role in helping students develop the practical skills, confidence and experience they need to succeed in their future careers.
To help ensure the safety and wellbeing of our clients, some hair and beauty treatments require a skin or patch test to be carried out 24–48 hours prior to the appointment. Our team will advise you when this is necessary and arrange a convenient time for the test to be completed.
Please note that services requiring a skin test cannot be carried out if the test has not been completed within the recommended timeframe.
For health, safety and insurance reasons, technical hairdressing services cannot be provided to children under the age of 14.

Our salons are typically open to the public Monday to Thursday during the academic year, although service availability may vary depending on student timetables and assessment activities. Please contact the relevant salon for the latest information.

When entering through the College's main reception, The Salon: Hair and Beauty can be found on the left-hand side of the main foyer, directly opposite Student Services.
Upon arrival, please report to the reception desk, where a member of our team will direct you to The Salon waiting area, and from here one of our Salon team will greet you and support you during your time with us.
We aim to create a friendly, professional and relaxing experience from the moment you arrive, ensuring every client receives a warm welcome while supporting our students in developing the skills and confidence needed for successful careers in the hair and beauty industry.
