Borders College is the regional college for the Scottish Borders and offers a wide range of courses, from an introductory level through to advanced courses at Higher National level, including the full range of apprenticeships courses.

Borders College, as a beacon for excellence, is much in demand as a leader and proactive innovator, collaborating widely through engagement with a variety of stakeholders. As a progressive organisation, the college is part of a number of innovation and economic development projects, working alongside key partners, universities and an extensive network of employers.

Successes with significant sustainable impact include our new Sustainable STEM Hub in Hawick, developed in partnership with Scottish Power, a collaboration with Eyemouth Boatyard to provide Boatbuilding Apprenticeships and our Care Career Academy, developed in partnership with Scottish Borders Council.

The College has a strong track record of delivering high quality training opportunities that reflect local and national socio-economic priorities. Over the last few years, we have made a significant investment in technology to enable flexible and mobile learning and provide industry standard learning environments.

What you'll find

With our modern Scottish Borders Campus at Netherdale in Galashiels, home to the majority of our wide range of full-time and part-time courses, our campus in Hawick, which is home to our Department of Enterprise and Business Innovation, and our Land-based campus at Newtown St Boswells, along with our Construction Hub at Tweedbank, we ensure that students choosing to study at Borders College will benefit from a first-class learning environment.

Our Newtown St Boswells Campus is a well-recognised centre of excellence for Land-based studies, where students on the various courses have access to industry specialists, practical areas and a dedicated learning resource centre. This high quality training facility is helping to meet the needs of an ever-changing rural and land-based sector.

In addition, the main College campuses are supported by a number of community-based learning facilities throughout the Borders, including our campus in Hawick. They offer specific courses designed to meet the needs of local businesses and their workforce development, and they also provide educational opportunities to individuals through a wide range of part-time day and evening courses.

Find a campus

Our campuses offer a great student experience. You'll meet others who share your interests and people from all over the world, discover new sports and activities, and make lifelong friends. And we'll support you all the way, through a range of services and facilities that will help you make the best of your time as a student.

Our Strategic Ambition

"Borders College will continue to be the learning and training provider of choice for employers, students and our staff.

We will provide innovative, life-changing learning opportunities that prepare our students for global citizenship"

Each year, around 5,220 students enrol for a wide range of courses and programmes, both day and evening, to HND level and beyond, particularly in subject areas that will enable them to dovetail into local employment opportunities. Partnerships have been developed with a number of Scottish universities to provide students with a seamless progression to degree level programmes, often with advanced standing.

Borders College was formed in 1984 by the amalgamation of Galashiels Technical College, Henderson Technical College (Hawick), Duns Agricultural Centre and the Agricultural Centre, Newtown St. Boswells. On April 1st 1993 under the Further Education (Scotland) Act 1992, the College was transferred from the Borders Regional Council to a Body Corporate.

The College is one several regional colleges in Scotland and is governed by a Regional Board. The College is funded primarily by the Scottish Funding Council on behalf of the Scottish Government.
