Student satisfaction hits a new high at Borders College

Borders College students have reported record-breaking satisfaction levels in this year’s Student Satisfaction and Engagement Survey. 98% of Borders College students expressed overall satisfaction with their college experience; the results reflect a continuing upward trend in learning, teaching and assessment.

The survey revealed strong approval in key areas of the student journey. Topping the list, 99% of students felt encouraged by staff to take responsibility for their learning, demonstrating the college’s commitment to fostering independent, confident learners.

Also notable was the feedback regarding workplace readiness. An impressive 98% of students reported that their time at the college had helped them develop the knowledge and skills necessary for employment. Staff support also stood out, with 96% stating that progress discussions were a regular feature of their learning experience.

The provision of useful feedback was praised by 97% of students, who found that feedback enhances their skills and helps them achieve their full potential. Across the board, every survey question saw an increase in satisfaction compared to the previous year, underlining the college’s focus on continuous improvement.

A total of 629 students responded to the survey, reflecting a 37% response rate. Although this marks a slight 1% drop from last year, the results highlight a consistently positive student experience at Borders College.

These survey outcomes affirm the college’s position as a leader in delivering high-quality further and higher education, with staff and students working together to build a thriving academic community.

Based on the 2024–25 Student Satisfaction & Engagement Survey results, the five highest-rated satisfaction areas among Borders College students are:

  1. Encouraged Responsibility for Learning – 99%
    Students overwhelmingly agreed that staff encourage them to take responsibility for their own learning, helping them become more self-reliant and confident in their abilities
  2. Overall Satisfaction with College Experience – 98%
    A near-universal 98% of respondents are satisfied with their college experience.
  3. Development of Knowledge and Skills for the Workplace – 98%
    Respondents said that they develop industry-relevant skills for their future workforce needs.
  4. Useful Feedback for Future Learning – 97%
    Students said that feedback helps them understand their strengths, identify areas for improvement, and take clear steps to progress in their future learning and work.
  5. Staff Discussing Student Progress – 96%
    Students were highly satisfied with how often staff engaged them in progress discussions.
