A Borders College learner has successfully achieved her SVQ in Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 7, proving that hard work and determination truly pay off.
Bethan Douglas, a busy mum working full-time as a Pupil Support Assistant in a school and nursery, juggled her job and family commitments to complete her qualification. Despite initially lacking confidence when starting the course, Bethan quickly grew into her studies, producing high-quality written work and consistently meeting deadlines.
Her dedication has already opened new doors — since completing her SVQ, Bethan has been offered a position as a Social Care Worker, marking an exciting new step in her career.
Reflecting on her journey, Bethan said:
“I’m over the moon to have completed my SVQ. I didn’t think it was possible for me to gain another qualification alongside working and my busy life as a mum, but I’ve proved myself wrong. Being able to do this at home gave me the flexibility to complete it over 10 months. Although it was challenging at times, achieving this gives me so many more opportunities for the future.
"I couldn’t have done the course without the support and encouragement from my assessor, Nicola, who pushed me to keep going throughout. She’s been fantastic and really made it easy for me to want to complete this course.”
Congratulations to Bethan on her outstanding achievement — a true example of perseverance and success through lifelong learning.
