Borders College has launched its new Nicotine Prevention Charter this Stoptober, reinforcing its commitment to promoting health and wellbeing across the College community.
Developed in partnership with NHS Borders Public Health, the Charter aligns with wider nicotine prevention work taking place across the Scottish Borders. It supports national and local ambitions to create a tobacco-free generation and reflects the College’s ongoing efforts to encourage healthier choices.
The initiative aims to help reduce nicotine use by supporting individuals who use nicotine products to access appropriate cessation pathways. Through this approach, Borders College hopes to raise awareness of the support available and encourage people to take positive steps towards improving their health and wellbeing.
The launch of the Charter represents an important step in the College’s continued work to create a supportive environment for students and staff. By working collaboratively with public health partners, the College aims to contribute to wider efforts to prevent nicotine use and help individuals access the guidance and support they need.
Hilary Broatch, Equalities, Diversity & Inclusion Officer and Student Services Manager (Learning Support), said:
“The launch of our Nicotine Prevention Charter is an important step in supporting the health and wellbeing of our college community. By working in partnership with NHS Borders Public Health, we want to raise awareness, encourage healthier choices and ensure that anyone looking to reduce or stop their nicotine use knows where to find support. Our aim is to create a positive, supportive environment that contributes to the wider ambition of a tobacco-free generation.”
Stoptober provides an opportunity to raise awareness of smoking cessation and encourage people to consider making positive changes to their health. Through the Nicotine Prevention Charter, Borders College is strengthening its commitment to supporting the wellbeing of its community while contributing to the shared ambition of a tobacco-free future for the Scottish Borders and beyond.
