Staff and students recently took part in a powerful resilience session, Demons in the Desert, led by Tim Bradshaw, Chief Executive Officer of the Sandstone Foundation. During the session, Tim shared his inspiring personal story of surviving a near-fatal racing accident and the journey he undertook to rebuild both his physical and mental strength.
During the session, staff and students explored what resilience looks like in moments of adversity and learned practical strategies for managing high-pressure situations and the anxiety that can accompany them. The workshop encouraged reflection, growth and shared insight into how small, consistent techniques can help build confidence and emotional strength.
Determined to return to the sport he loves, Tim has set himself the ambitious goal of competing in rallying once again. He is now working toward taking part in the Dakar Rally in 2027, joining teammates who are each overcoming their own personal challenges. As part of their preparation, the team plans to compete in the 2026 Scottish Rally Championship, using it to strengthen their skills, teamwork and resilience ahead of the Dakar challenge in January 2027.
As part of his ongoing mission to inspire the next generation, Tim also announced an incredible opportunity for Borders College students. He will be inviting six learners from various colleges to join his team at the 2026 Scottish Rally Championship, giving them hands-on experience in a real competitive environment. Looking ahead to 2027, Tim hopes to take two students all the way to the Dakar Rally, offering a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be part of one of the world’s toughest and most iconic motorsport events.
