A Celebration of Success recently took place at South West Locality, Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre in Edinburgh, for six Edinburgh City Council Homecare/Social Care Assistants.

The group undertook their SVQ Social Services and Healthcare award at SCQF Level 6 through Borders College Department of Enterprise and Business Innovation.

The award was delivered over a period of 32 weeks and comprised of a three-hour tutorial every fortnight, 1-2-1 time with the College’s Tutor/Assessor, Gail Holmes.

Employees Dawn Middleton, Helen May, Jacqueline Carrigan, Lesley Berry, and Shirley White looked at professional discussion and home-based learning, and direct observations were undertaken on activities relating to the award when Gail visited the workplace.

Gail Holmes commented:

“At our first meeting, I could see how nervous the candidates were. This soon changed, and it was great to see the group progress and complete the course.”

Quotes from candidates included:

“I remember thinking there was no way I could do this.”

“I’m so pleased I did this now.”
