Menopause Awareness Session on Tuesday 21st March 2023

As part of Women’s History Month celebrations, Borders College and NHS Borders have joined forces to host a menopause awareness session at Borders College. This is part of an ongoing series of Menopause Cafes which have been running successfully from the College’s restaurant since October 2022.

Dr Faye Rodger, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at NHS Borders, will host a menopause awareness talk and Q&A at the event, which is free for all to attend.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day was #EmbraceEquity. Research tells us that women continue to face inequity in the workplace when it comes to menopause; many are forced to reduce hours, pass up promotions and even quit their jobs due to lack of menopause support.

Menopause has always existed, but menopausal women are now one of the fastest-growing workforce demographics. This means it is more important than ever for organisations to be confident and comfortable to talk about menopause and to be actively thinking about how to create menopause-inclusive spaces.

The session is open to those experiencing menopause, including transgender and non-binary people, and their supporters. It is hoped that the session will help spread awareness and provide support for those going through this challenging but natural stage of life. Professionals who would benefit from this learning are also welcome to attend.

Free teas, coffees and fresh scones will be served by the college’s Skills for Learning and Work students.
