Former HND Art and Design student John Dean added fresh inspiration to the Scottish Borders Campus with a series of artworks drawn from childhood memories.
John, 57, from Duns, was offered the chance to present his skills through the revival of the old Corridor Gallery. He developed ‘Whence they Came,’ an exhibit of six framed photos of his ceramic creations.
John shared:
“I’m thrilled to have my pieces shown publicly at the campus. The works reflect the textures and colours of the stark coastal landscapes I roamed as a boy.”
“By recreating these surfaces in clay, I’ve returned them to the place where their story began.”
The exhibit highlights the value of art in education and celebrates the creativity and skill of its maker.
Borders College Art and Design Lecturer Niall Campbell said:
“John’s pieces reflect the imagination and uniqueness we nurture at Borders College, and they allow our students to exhibit their work to the public. Bringing back the Corridor Gallery enriches the College space, as it is forward-thinking and student-led.”
Beyond his course, John enjoys photography and exploring Northumberland, his birthplace. He recently accepted a place at the University of Sunderland for Ceramics in Glass.
